Chapter Fourteen

SEEKING TRUTH

The next morning, all Jenna could think about was Kane. Why he was back and most importantly, what part did he have to play in the OCL’s plans. She climbed out of bed, left her room and went into the kitchen. Jason and her children were eating breakfast. Jenna stared at them in surprise; Jason, Zachary and Alisha were blowing bubbles in their chocolate milk with their straws.

She laughed and said to Jason, “You are cleaning up the table this morning, not me.” Jenna looked at the chocolate milk that lay in a puddle around each of their cups, on the table.

“I will; we were just having some fun, weren’t we?” He looked at his two little companions and the children giggled.

Jenna rolled her eyes and smiled. She took out a coffee cup and filled it with the steaming java.

“You slept in a bit late this morning,” Jason said to her.

“Couldn’t sleep much last night, I kept thinking about Kane and his secretive part in all this mess.”

“Isn’t there anyway you could find out? Maybe Bradley or that Victor guy knows something?” Jason asked.

Jenna shook her head and said, “I have no way of getting a hold of them.”

“Someone has got to know what is going on, someone who knows the OCL or knows Kane,” Jason said.

“There is no one close by here that knows about that stupid cult or Kane. I don’t know...” Jenna stopped because someone had come to mind, someone who knew about the cult and knows Kane really well. He would be the one to know, he had visions of the OCL too. “Matthew!” Jenna shouted.

Jason and the two children jumped at the sound.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you guys,” Jenna said and laughed.

“Who is Matthew?” Jason asked once his heart rate slowed from the unexpected outburst.

“Matthew Upton, he is Kane’s brother.”

Jason looked at Jenna. “Should we trust him?”

“Yes, we can trust him. He wasn’t close to his brother, especially when I was with Kane. Matthew didn’t like it when he beat me up all the time.”

“He wasn’t the only one, if I ever see Kane again, I swear I will kill him for what he had put you through and now he is fucking back. He better not let me catch him around you again!”

Jenna looked at Jason in surprise; she had never heard him talk of killing someone especially with such vehemence. She knew that if Jason did ever see Kane again, it would take a lot of power to hold him back.

Jason smiled at her and said, “Don’t look at me like that, I am just being honest.”

“Okay,” Jenna began, “back on the subject of Matthew.” She smiled and thought to herself, “He would kill for me, but that is not really a good thing though. Then again, he did swear to protect me; it probably has nothing to do with his true feelings for me.” Aloud Jenna said, “Matthew and I were very close, and he too had visions of the OCL, even though he did not know the name of them.
